M Coy (All The Way) – Summer and Fall Trg 2011
By Lt Chad Hansen, 2Pl Comd
Since the end of last spring's major brigade exercise, the Regiment's designated Parachute Company has kept a quick pace here at home, focusing on those soldier skills critical to our success as we prepare for an exciting and ambitious fall that will bring our paratroopers all the way to Krakow, Poland, Wainwright, Alberta, and back to Petawawa.

This past June was the perfect opportunity to focus heavily on parachute training and proficiency. This included para refresher classes of aircraft drills, flight, landings and equipment rigging as well as a para swim test for the entire company group. Training culminated with a two-day aircraft concentration that employed both CH 146 Griffon helicopters and the brand new CC -130J Hercules. Aircrew from Sqns in Borden, Petawawa, and Trenton worked with 2 CMBG soldiers to conduct numerous currency jumps, including intentional water landings. The final two descents of the concentration included both a Military Freefall and Static Line insertion of the entire company group in a tactical, full equipment training scenario on Drop Zone Anzio here at CFB Petawawa. It was a terrific opportunity to build the cohesion and esprit de corps amongst the rifleman, patrolman, snipers, signallers, sappers, gunners, medics, and other diverse members of 2nd Brigade's Parachute Company Group.
After a much needed summer block leave period with our families and loved ones, the company hit the ground running in August with an aggressive training schedule that took advantage of the great Ottawa Valley weather and the many available training resources. A busy program of live fire training engaged our soldiers with everything from All Arms Call for Fire supported by E Battery, 2 RCHA to live fire urban operations training. The training was well received and was a good opportunity for soldiers to brush up on their individual skills and for platoon leadership to practice command and control in a complex urban environment. The remainder of the month was filled with many other days on the ranges conducting what is known as Individual Battle Task Standards, including everything from annual personal weapons tests, to grenades, to fieldcraft.
September has already been just as busy with patrol training designed to build cohesive teams at the section and platoon level to ensure the company is prepared for October's Exercise MAPLE RESOLVE in Alberta. In addition to this training 2 Platoon departed Canada to represent the Canadian Forces at a large NATO exercise in Poland.
Time in M Company tends to fly by, so no doubt November will soon be upon us with another two months of exciting and challenging training behind the paratroopers of 3 RCR.
