The Royal Canadian Regiment was officially formed on 21 December 1883 when the Canadian Government issued General Order No. 26. Wolseley Barracks is the first building constructed specifically for Canadian army troops and is now an historic site. Built between 1883 and 1886, the building is typical of Victorian military architecture of its day and is worth a visit in its own right. Since its formation, the Regiment has remained an ingrained part of the local community and a recognizable symbol in the City of London's rich history.
