A former cadet and commissioned officer with that Sqn; WO Mellish was killed in action during Operation Medusa on 3 September, 2006 while serving in Afghanistan with the First Battalion Royal Canadian Regiment. The dedication is scheduled to take place on August 27, 2011 at The International Air Show.
The plane will be used by all three provinces in their summer gliding programs of which Frank's wife Kendra, was an instructor, having also received her single engine pilot license and glider with instructor certificate with the #53 Sqn Cadet Corp.
Kendra has been instrumental in the fund raising campaign for this project and has contributed a large portion of the precedes on behalf of herself and Frank's two sons, Matthew and Koven and his remaining families. Kendra is not available for the presentation due to Canadian Forces commitments that take her out of the province. Frank's sons, his parents and other extended families will be there for the ceremonies.
Frank was brought up in the Summerside/Kensington parts of Prince Edward Island and is buried at Floral Hills Cemetery in Fredericton, not far from Kensington, PEI the place, Frank loved to call home.
