1 RCR Change of Regimental Sergeant-Major

Wednesday 29 June 2011

Ross Appleton, Captain, Regimental Adjutant

It has been a much busier summer than anticipated, but there have been some noteworthy events taking place that I would like to draw your attention to. The changing of the appointment of Regimental Sergeant-Major within a Battalion is always a highly significant event.

Late on the afternoon of 29 June 2011 at Victoria Barracks, Petawawa, 1st Battalion The Royal Canadian Regiment witnessed such a change in appointment. With all Officers and Men of the Battalion looking on and the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant-Colonel Peter K. Scott presiding, Chief Warrant Officer Stuart G. Hartnell, MMM, CD, passed on the RSM's pace stick to Chief Warrant Officer Kevin J.R. Donovan, MSM, CD. CWO Hartnell had just completed an extremelly successful tenure of appointment as RSM of 1 RCR, that included a mission to Afghanistan as RSM of the most recent 1 RCR Battle Group.

CWO Hartnell has now deservedley stepped up as Brigade Chief Warrant Officer of 2 Canadian Mechanized Brigade Group (2 CMBG).

From RHQ congratulations and best wishes to both CWO Hartnell and RSM Donovan.
